ACCELERATE at the Eu-SPRI Conference: How to identify and evaluate Research Infrastructures’ impact?

6-8 June 2018, Paris – France

Eu-SPRI, the European Forum for Studies of Policies for Research and Innovation, is held annually and gathers experts and fellows in the field.

This year, the conference focused on five main themes spanning governance, innovation policy, understanding of globalization, challenges for renewed research orientations, and the relation between societal change and
innovation.

Mrs. Leonie Van Drooge (Senior Researcher at the Rathenau Institute) presented the work she her colleagues Mrs. Isabelle van Elzakker (Researcher) and Dr. Jasper Deuten (Coordinator) do for ACCELERATE.

The audience got to explore and understand the ongoing work carried out in the frame of the project, for the development of an approach to monitor and evaluate the societal impact of Research infrastructures (RIs). Given their great variety and the complex context in which they operate, there is no evident or standard set of impacts for RIs. This is true for the members of ACCELERATE as well.

During the conference, as leader of the task “Assessment of Socio-economic Impact of Research Infrastructures (RIs)”, Mrs. Van Drooge presented how relevant impacts and indicators can be determined, and how they can be used as tools for monitoring purposes.
